Rick Owens Launches Dystopian SS19 "ParkaPoncho" Coat
Truly one-size-fits-all.
Another standout piece from Rick Owens‘ ever-progressive Spring/Summer 2019 “BABEL” collection, the ParkaPoncho is a succinct example of the Paris-based designer’s uncompromising vision to upend the core tenets of menswear. Loosely drawing inspiration from militaria, the enormous coat offers a dramatic, body-obscuring silhouette.
Plucked straight off the runway, the voluminous garment, offered in “Oyster Light Grey,” is cut to intentionally sit dramatically oversized, complete with a floor-length drape. Lightweight cotton informs the majority of the military parka-inspired piece — the rear panel offers 3% spandex — thus encouraging both dramatic billow from breezes and comfort in warm climates. An enormous hoodie obscures the wearer’s face, while an asymmetric hemline covers up different parts of the body, made customizable by various snap buttons along the bottom. Long drawstrings allow further fit customization, while a front zipper makes it easy to slide into.
The unmatchable ParkaPoncho is currently available on Rick Owens’ website for $3,320 USD.
Most recently, Owens announced a pop-up at ANDREAS MURKUDIS encompassing ready-to-wear, furniture and even his Birkenstock collaboration.
