Netflix Amps up Its Zombie Content With 'Black Summer'
Acting as a ‘Z Nation’ prequel.
Following the success of Netflix‘s first Korean drama, Kingdom, the streaming giant is gearing up to release a new series on the popular zombie genre.
Titled Black Summer, the new show will act as a Z Nation prequel and stars Jaime King as Rose, a mother searching for her lost daughter during the catastrophic zombie outbreak. Teaming up with a group of American refugees, King must make multiple harrowing decisions to keep her and her crew alive in this post-apocalyptic world.
Z Nation originally aired on Syfy for five seasons before ultimately being cancelled. Black Summer, created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams, will take place in the same universe and will kick off its first season on Netflix Thursday, April 11.
Speaking with syfy.com, Z Nation producer Jodi Binstock stated:
“Really, the only similarity between Z Nation and Black Summer is that the Black Summer is the first summer that Z Nation took place in. Z Nation, when it begins, is in year four of the zombie apocalypse. Black Summer is three months in; this is the first outbreak, this is when all the sh*t’s hitting the fan. It’s not tongue-in-cheek at all. It is as realistic as any television I’ve ever seen.”
