XXX Juxtapose Nature Verses Machine in "Ganju Gok" Video
The video is directed by Andre Bato.
XXX — an experimental Korean hip-hop duo, made up of bilingual rapper Kim Ximya and producer FRNK — recently announced their sophomore album Second Language will drop on Feb. 15. Today (Feb. 7), drop the video for their newest single “Ganju Gok.” The video, which was directed by Andre Bato, captures the juxtaposing narratives of primal and machinery.
“We took it to the extreme so people might get bored or not even get ‘Ganju Gok,’” said XXX to HYPEBEAST. Director Andre Bato remembers how the idea was first developed.
“When I was approached to direct XXX’s video for ‘Ganju Gok’ I was honestly surprised at how much the group’s vision aligned with a lot of my work,” Bato explains. “I’ve always been very fascinated by the relationship between nature and machines, and XXX’s albums Language and Second Language deal with exactly that.”
He continues, “the idea of contrasting a horse and a Lamborghini came to mind conventionally as in many ways both are admired for similar reasons: their speed, their beauty, and their correlation to socio-economic status. What I enjoy about our video is how we took two opposite things, a barebacked horse (Nature) and a luxury car (Machine) and provided them with a space to coexist, a middle ground.”
