Avant-pop pioneer SOPHIE, real name Sophie Xeon, has been relatively quiet throughout 2019. Last year she went on to release her highly transgressive debut album Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides, receiving a Grammy nod at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards for Best Dance/Electronic Album. This year she’s taken a step back from her solo efforts, helping with production on Palmistry’s “Water,” Cashmere Cat’s Princess Catgirl, appeared on Flume’s Hi, This Is Flume mixtape, and more. But it seems SOPHIE won’t be ending her riotous decade in delicate fashion – she’s capping 2019 with a new remix of Sonikku’s “Sweat” featuring Liz.
Continuing to usher in her playfully-forward sound, the remixed dance track is filled with hyperkinetic synths, epic chord progressions, and pounding basslines. This all melds perfectly alongside Liz’s eclectic vocals, who croons about the sweaty nightlife atmosphere.
