Tennis Champion Roger Federer Gets His Own Commemorative Swiss Coin
“There is no other Swiss person in the world as well known as Roger Federer.”
Tennis legend Roger Federer is getting his own commemorative Swiss coin in honor of his achievements and contributions both on and off the court. Swissmint will be producing a 20-Franc silver coin for the 38-year-old player — marking the first time this distinction has been awarded to a living person — to celebrate his 20 Grand Slam wins, a record no one else has achieved.
“There is no other Swiss person in the world as well known as Roger Federer,” said Swissmint. “One could almost lose count of his tennis records – he spent 237 consecutive weeks as world No. 1, holds the most grand slam men’s singles titles (20), and has won 103 singles titles in total so far. These records and his versatile playing style make him probably the greatest tennis player of all time.” On top of his achievements in the game of tennis, Federer has also set up his own foundation providing financial aid to children in need, and was named the first Swiss UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador back in 2006.
The 20-Franc Roger Federer silver coin is now available on pre-sale over at Swissmint for CHF 30, with a 50-Franc gold coin coming next year as well. Head over to learn more now.
Elsewhere in sports, Lionel Messi has won a record-breaking sixth Ballon d’Or.
