Backstage at Dior's Much-Anticipated Pre-Fall 2020 Miami Show
Detailed shots of the Shawn Stussy-approved shoes, jewelry, clothing and more.
Just days after confirming its rumored collaboration with Shawn Stussy, Dior has offered a backstage view of its Pre-Fall 2020 collection, shown ahead of Art Basel 2019 in Miami. A bevy of apparel, bags and other accessories are all available for perusal, artfully incorporating Stussy’s signature typeface with Dior’s logo.
According to Dior, the assemblage “merge[s] American and French identities, a fertile breeding ground for inspiration and clashes of culture.” It’s a concept that was inspired by designs from 1947 by Christian Dior, who at the time was curious about American culture. Kim Jones is building on the couturier’s story, with a special focus on Stussy’s Californian roots. Featured silhouettes include bold winter layers like knit sweaters, jackets, polos and shirts; accessories like ties, french barrettes and shiny jewelry; complemented by a slew of classic footwear staples. The collection takes on vivid hues of Hibiscus Red, Pacific Blue and a variety of saffron and pastel shades, reflecting the buoyant architecture of Miami beach.
Noteworthy pieces like the metallic limited-edition Saddle Bag and fluid jackets in tropical wools showcase a youthful spin on luxury, while intricately detailed jewelry designed by AMBUSH‘s Yoon Ahn expand the collection’s style offerings. Another highlight is a pair of loafers that come in treated leather stamped with “DIOR” logomania — colorways range from textured green python to all-black. Other pieces like intarsia knits, tote bags and T-shirts see premium embroidery and special beading, colored with floral motifs, checks and stripes that take on a look and feel informed by graffiti and warm sunset hues.
