Take an Official Look at the Nike Doernbecher Freestyle 2019 Collection
Bold designs from brave young patients.
Since partnering up in 2004, Nike and the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital have given young patients the chance to design their very own sneakers. With all profits benefiting the hospital, the Doernbecher Freestyle initiative has generated nearly $24 million USD.
This year’s collection saw a cast of brave young patients known as “The Super Six” offer their spin on popular Nike and Jordan brand footwear models. The six channeled their inner egos (The Empath, The Beacon, The Speed Demon, The Heavy Hitter, The Daredevil and The Fighter) to create shoes that mark their fight with “foes.” Each design is riddled with details that reference The Super Six’s battle with type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, congenital heart defect, kidney cancer, brain cancer and Hodgkin lymphoma. Footwear models included in the 2019 collection include the Nike Air Force 1, SB Zoom Janoski, React Element 55, Air Max Triax 96, Zoom Pegasus Turbo II and Air Jordan 14.
The Nike Doernbecher Freestyle 2019 collection will be available on nike.com and select retailer December 7.
