Nike Plays With Tone and Texture on the Air Max 90 "Desert Sand"
Featuring laser-etched detailing on the upper.

The 30th anniversary of the Air Max 90 is right around the corner, and Nike is starting the celebration just a little early with this new “Desert Sand” take on the Tinker Hatfield-designed classic. Calling upon a color palette reminiscent of classic Nike ACG product to further accentuate its signature ’90s vibe, the alternate style also features plenty of unique detailing.
A trifecta of natural shades are combined on the upper. The stone-colored ripstop base is covered by a tan suede mudguard and sand-colored leather overlays that also feature laser-etched detailing, a potential nod to the terrain patterns found on maps. The Swoosh is equipped with a black synthetic material, while pops of deep purple and burnt orange arrive on the signature plastic eyestays.
More orange and purple is then present on the midsole, encasing a jet-black Air Max cushioning unit. A laser-engraved leather tongue patch and rubberized heel piece finalize the trek-ready look.
The Nike Air Max 90 “Desert Sand” will release at retailers like Titolo on November 15, with a retail price set at $135 USD. You can also expect more special Air Max makeups to appear over the coming weeks and months with the aforementioned 30th anniversary festivities drawing ever closer.
Elsewhere in the world of throwback Nike footwear, the Air Max 1 and Air Huarache have switched colorways as part of a new “87 x 91” DNA Series pack.
