KitKat Japan Introduces Shiny Gold Wrapped Caramel Tokyo Banana Flavor
A nod to the upcoming Olympics.

After launching its eco-friendly origami paper wrappings, KitKat Japan is back with a new initiative to add on to its expansive lineup of creative concepts. This time around, the chocolate company is teaming up with Tokyo Banana for a sweet “Gold Caramel Tokyo Banana Flavor.” The relationship between the two companies started two years ago when travelers, as well as locals, were lining up to get their hands on the Tokyo-exclusive treat.
As its name suggests, the latest flavor with Tokyo Banana will be packaged in shiny gold wrappings. According to KitKat, the gold is meant as moral support for Japan’s national athletes in the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics, while nodding to all the hard workers in the country who always strive for gold. Coming in sizes of either eight or 15-pack, the boxes will include a yellow cover emblazoned with stark co-branding alongside a graphic of a golden ribbon and scattered confetti. Unwrapping the treat, the mini wafer bars feature caramel powder kneaded inside and out, intermingling with lush banana flavors and white chocolate. As a finishing touch, each bar has been subtly stamped with “Tokyo Banana” on the obverse ends.
KitKat Japan’s Gold Caramel Tokyo Banana Flavor is currently available at Tokyo Okashi Land at Tokyo Station until January 8. Afterward, the chocolates will be made available at other locations across Tokyo — airports, train stations and other tourist spots. 8-pack or 15-pack boxes will be available for $6 and $12 USD, respectively.
