03 Greedo & Kenny Beats Drop Collaborative Project 'Netflix & Deal'
Based on films Greedo used to watch in his traphouse in Atlanta.
03 Greedo has had a fruitful 2019 despite being behind bars, following up his collaborations with Travis Barker and Mustard with Netflix & Deal alongside Kenny Beats. The 13-track project features guest appearances from Freddie Gibbs on “Disco Sh*t,” Vince Staples for “Blue People,” Maxo Kream for “Beg Your Pardon,” Key! for “Aye Twin,” Ohgeesy for “Payback” and Buddy for “Soulfood.”
The two released a short documentary accompanying the project, noting that footage was filmed between February 2018 (four months before Greedo’s incarceration) and August 2019. Evident from the track titles, the album takes inspiration from Greedo’s interest in cinema. “Netflix and Deal is based on movies I watched in my traphouse in Atlanta when I was hustlin’,” he said in the documentary. “You know, there ain’t no sh*t to do but to watch Netflix and bootleg movies and sh*t… I wanted to tie that shit into my life and just show that I feel like I was living a movie.”
The short visual also features Greedo and Kenny’s first studio session, a video call with Vince Staples and the incarcerated rapper talking about his legal battle. The docu ends with a short note that reads, “03 Greedo turned himself in on June 28, 2018. He is currently serving time at Potter County Detention Center in Amarillo, Texas. The opportunity to spend time creating together and getting to know him as a person is something we will always cherish deeply. As we patiently wait for his return, you should write him. Free Greedo,” along with an address for fans to send their letters.
