The Best New Singles of the Week: Lil Uzi Vert, The Weeknd, Blood Orange and More

Erika Goldring/FilmMagic)Aside from Drake’s security team accidentally beating up Shawn Mendez, it was an overall excellent week for music—not only did a Cool Kids reunion catch us by surprise, but we were also blessed with a herd of unexpected collaborations.
Among them were Cher and Future teaming up as duet and Lorde dropping a remix to “Homemade Dynamite” with SZA, Khalid and Post Malone. We also saw Lil Yachty join forces with Ski Mask The Slump God and a preview from Macklemore’s surprising new single with Offset. Below, our best new music picks of the week.
Four Tet – “Scientist”

British producer and DJ, Four Tet, has released a slew of new singles over these past few weeks — the latest batch containing this standout single called “Scientist.” The track features the kind of off-kilter samples that fans have grown to appreciate from Four Tet and also serves as the first release from his forthcoming album New Energy, due out on September 29.
Blood Orange – “BOWERYLDN EDIT 6 15 SEPTEMBER”

Dev Hynes surprised fans this week with this unexpected Blood Orange release on his SoundCloud titled “BOWERYLDN EDIT 6 15 SEPTEMBER.” The smooth, mellow late-night cut might be the prelude toward a long-overdue full length project of sorts. Check it out below.
R. Kelly – “Down Low” (The Weeknd Cover)

The Weeknd debuted his cover of R. Kelly‘s “Down Low” on OVO Sound Radio earlier this week after sharing some hints on his social media throughout the week. Needless to say, the Toronto superstar managed to reinvigorate with style one of the greatest R&B records of all time. Stream below.
Zoey Dollaz featuring Young Thug & Lil Durk – “Move Like The Mob”

South Florida continues to pump out some of the hottest new rap acts in the game. Among the new players is Zoey Dollaz, who teamed up with Young Thug and Lil Durk for this new squad cut, “Move Like The Mob.” Listen in below.
Kari Faux featuring Jerry Paper – “Gotta Know”

There’s not a lot happening in Little Rock, Arkansas — but that may soon change. Enter Kari Faux, the up-and-coming crooner who’s purveying some silky-smooth R&B meets synth-pop vibes as of late. This week, she released a new song and video called “Gotta Know” featuring synth-pop’s curly-haired enigma himself, Jerry Papers. Press play to listen below.
Mount Kimbie featuring James Blake – “How We Got By”

Earlier this week, English electronic duo Mount Kimbie dropped off their third studio album, Love What Survives, following up on 2013′s acclaimed Cold Spring Fault Less Youth LP. Along with the notable King Krule feature, the project is packed with gems, including this James Blake-assisted cut, “How We Got By.” Check it out below.
Gucci Mane & The Weeknd – “Curve”

With this wedding day TV special on the horizon, Gucci Mane unveiled what could very well be his wedding song come next week. Produced by NAV, the song also features vocals from The Weeknd and serves as the latest single off Guwop’s upcoming Mr. Davis album.
$UICIDEBOY$ – “For The Last Time”

The $UICIDEBOY$ officially concluded their coveted Kill Yourself Saga series following the first batch of five EP’s released back in May of this year. Just days after the release, “For The Last Time” has already become an instant favorite amongst fans. Check it out below.
Post Malone & 21 Savage – “Rockstar”

After performing an impressive Nirvana cover earlier this week, Posty linked up with fellow new-school star 21 Savage for a melodic new cut, “Rockstar.” The song is the officia lead single in support of Post Malone’s anticipated sophomore album Beerbongs and Bentleys. Stream below.
Maxo Kream & Lil Uzi Vert – “Mars”

There were several standouts on this week’s episode of OVO Sound Radio, one of which was “Mars” from Maxo Kream and Lil Uzi Vert. A previously unreleased cut, the track found the two rappers spit about drugs and extraterrestrial travel with Uzi providing a melodic hook. Listen in below.
