ECCO Leather launched its annual HOT-SHOP installment that gathers leading designers from diverse creative communities such as fashion, industrial design, furniture, and electronics. “The event allows teams to freely conceptualize something and actually do the material with help of our experts but again in their own way together with them,” said HOT-SHOP organizer, Panos Mytaros. “There is no commercial activity happening in the HOT-SHOP. We are all creatives and all using our creative energy to create exceptional materials.”
One of the participants is Amsterdam-based Studio Hagel helmed by footwear design specialist, Mathieu Hagelaars. The design team collaborated on multiple standout projects with established names including Nike, Off-White™, PUMA, and Snow Peak. As part of the event, Studio Hagel undertook an intensive four-day workshop to craft an innovative sneaker using real leather and other sustainable materials. The resulting silhouette for Hagelaars and his team was a high-top shoe equipped with heat-reactive leather uppers, contrasting overlays such as cracked leather near the ankle collars, and treaded outsoles to tackle challenging terrain.
