Matthew M. Williams — the designer behind ALYX — has revealed a new performance gear collection with Nike, mixing data influences with his own design ethos. For the capsule, Williams used computational design and analyzed data regarding motion, heat and sweat zones to create the “future uniform of training.”
Discussing this technique, Williams explained that “what computational design and computer data can offer is really the future of design. It allows us to see things or take things further than we might otherwise. It helps to create a different perspective that we can build around. Working in tandem — with data and emotion — is super interesting.” Despite the important role of data in designing the collection, Williams also added his own personal “imperfections” including raw edge finishes.
The collection encompasses menswear and womenswear, and covers everything from T-shirts and tank tops to performance-related accessories such as socks and a towel. Take a look at the first images of the collection — shot by Ryan Murray – and expect the “MMW” collection from Nike and Williams to drop on July 12.
