Although the internet and fashion insiders everywhere are reacting to Virgil Abloh‘s appointment at Louis Vuitton, Abloh has yet to reveal his own take on the move. Mere days later, the fashion house welcomed the creative to one of its ateliers and got answers to some of the big questions circling the news.

On LV’s Instagram stories, Abloh describes how Pharrell inspired his first Louis Vuitton purchase — the Wapity wallet — as he toys with bag prototypes. Later, he describes that his inspiration comes “from things I see on the street, and my friends.” For Abloh, inspiration is seemingly everywhere: indeed, “a delivery worker had a cool pair of jeans on, that gave me an idea. That was twenty seconds ago.” At Louis Vuitton, the designer aims to “establish a new vocabulary … that’s youthful, modern, but at the same time, hinged on the past.” Finally, Abloh notes that the most exciting thing about joining the pedigreed label “is the ability to create with this level of craftsmanship and luxury.”

Check out the clips below.

Meanwhile, Louis Vuitton is planning to open up a trio of new French factories to cut down on order times.
