Kelela Gets Animated in New Video for "Frontline"
Inspired by The Sims.
With her Take Me Apart tour currently en route, beloved R&B songstress Kelela gas debuted a new Sims-inspired visual for her album standout cut, “Frontline.” The song was debuted back in September as part of the soundtrack for HBO’s hit show Insecure and then eventually landing on her album. Meanwhile, going off of the visual aesthetics of the dreamy R&B breakup anthem, the video finds a computer-generated version of Kelela sitting down with her ex-cyber lover where she explains to him it’s a dub between the two.
In speaking to Rolling Stone about the “Frontline” video, she explained:
“I love speaking to my fans through music videos and I always find it more fun to reference things that we can all relate to that may not be in the forefront. With this sims-like video, I was able to tell my story in a light-hearted but dramatic way. It’s about leaving your ex with the wind in your hair while acknowledging a curiously complex feeling of pain that he has left you for a white woman.”
