New 'True Detective' Season 3 Trailer Is Giving off Season 1 Vibes
Returning next month.
HBO has just shared a new trailer for the upcoming third season of True Detective. Featuring the star power of Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali, the highly-anticipated forthcoming season of the anthology series looks to be going back on the same vibes and storyline that made season one so great. Unlike season two, Nic Pizzolatto taps freely into what made the show’s inaugural season so amazing, such as the gritty motives and horror elements.
Set in the Ozarks, the storyline will center around detective Wayne Hays (Ali) during three separate time periods of his life as he tries to solve the same case of two missing kids that’s been haunting him. Take a look at the latest trailer above.
Along with Ali playing the main role, the new season also stars Mamie Gummer, Stephen Dorff and Carmen Ejogo. Season 3 of True Detective is scheduled to release on HBO January 13, 2019.
Ali was casted for the role last summer, a part he fought hard to get. According to an interview with Variety, Ali’s lead character was originally written with a white actor in mind. In the interview, Ali explained how he convinced Pizzolatto to cast him. “I could’ve played that second lead, that supporting career. But in my mind, I was like, ‘I’ve done this my entire career though. I’ve never done that. At that time, I’m 43 years old. If it don’t happen now, it really may not happen,” he stated.
