Willow Smith Surprise-Drops Debut Album 'Ardipithecus'
“Ardipithecus Ramidus is the scientific name of the first hominid bones found on earth. I wanted to name my musical compilation after it because, while I was making these songs I was in such a transitional state.”
Earlier in the month, Willow Smith revealed that her debut studio album was finished and would be arriving soon. Now, like many other artists nowadays, Willow Smith has utlitized the element of surprise to drop her debut LP. Entitled Ardipithecus, the album is comprised of 15 tracks, 14 of which count Willow Smith as their sole songwriter. The older Smith brother Trey Smith and JABS are credited on a few of the songs featured on Ardipithecus. In a statement to FADER, Willow Smith explained today’s release as such:
“Ardipithecus Ramidus is the scientific name of the first hominid bones found on earth. I wanted to name my musical compilation after it because, while I was making these songs I was in such a transitional state. Digging deep in the soil of my heart and finding bits and pieces of my ancient self that tell stories, which end up being the lyrics to the songs. Ardipithecus is my first album in my entire career and it makes me feel so blessed to be able to share my evolution with the LightEaters as I continue excavating my inner worlds…”
