12/13/2018: After being teased at the end of Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us, it has been confirmed the original Pokémon: The First Movie is being rebooted as Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution.
The teaser, according to Pokémon site Dogasu’s Backpack, showcases Mewtwo floating in a tank asking where and who he is as bubbles begin to float up. Although this appears to be a reboot of the original Pokémon film, the 2017 film I Choose You! has since rebooted the film universe, this looks to follow along that timeline.
Although there’s no word on an international release, Mewtwo Strikes Back is slated to hit theaters July 12, 2019 in Japan. Check out the first official image below.
