Watch Joey Bada$$ Perform a Cover of Prince's "When Doves Cry"
You never heard it like this before.
After securing his first #1 record ever last year for a song that wasn’t even his, Joey Bada$$ took his talents to Australia this week where he participated in Triple J’s weekly series, “Like A Version.” The segment brings in notable artists from all around the world where they’re invited to perform a cover song that they enjoy. In the case of the beloved Brooklyn “Temptation” rapper, he elected to go with Prince’s legendary cut, “When Doves Cry.” With a live band backing him, Joey performed an impressive rendition of the 1984 classic that not only included some additional rhymes but also showcased his newfound singing ability. It should also be noted, he titled this cover “When Thugs Cry.”
