A New Documentary Will Look at Hayao Miyazaki's Creative Process
The film airs on June 3rd.
Hayao Miyazaki, the legendary Japanese animator and co-founder of Studio Ghibli, is the subject of a new documentary titled Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki. The documentary, from director Kaku Arakawa, starts following Miyazaki in the immediate aftermath of his 2013 retirement announcement. Over the course of the film, Miyazaki explores new creative pursuits before settling on CGI, a medium he resisted throughout his career as an animator. After adapting to CGI, Miyazaki eventually came out of retirement and announced a new Studio Ghibli film. Arakawa’s film, which looks at Miyazaki’s brief retirement and creative process, airs on NHK WORLD TV on June 3 and will be repeated the following day.
If you’re looking for more Miyazaki films, GKIDS and Fathom Events have teamed up to show six of them at Studio Ghibli Fest in June.
