Virgil Abloh Set to Be the Subject of Career-Spanning Exhibition
Alongside a series of youth-focused events.
2017 has been a huge year for Virgil Abloh, with everything from his award-winning Nike collaboration to appearing on the cover of System magazine. Capping off the past 12 months, the Off-White™ designer is set to be the subject of a new exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in his hometown of Chicago.
The exhibition — which unfortunately won’t open until June 2019 — will show Abloh’s work from his early days working with Kanye West to his recent work with Off-White™. As well as focusing on his fashion career, the exhibition is set to show how Abloh’s work crosses disciplines with everything from furniture design, graphic design, architecture, and joint work with artists such as Peter Saville and Tom Sachs also featuring. Alongside the exhibition itself, there will be a series of events aimed at educating and empowering young people. This is the first exhibition to focus on Abloh’s work, although the designer recently worked with Ben Kelly to create a dystopian nightclub installation in London.
MCA’s Virgil Abloh exhibition will run from June 9 until September 22 2019. In other Off-White™ news, take a closer look at the brand’s exclusive collection for Moscow-based retailer KM20.
