Uber Will No Longer Display Details About Surge Pricing
Instead opts for new approach to save passengers from having to do math.

On a busy night out where everyone is fighting to find an Uber home, it’s not uncommon to be faced with surge pricing. For most the final bill is often a surprise, especially on New Year’s Eve when a 3.5x surge could mean an unexpected $300 or more bill. To address the issue, Uber has opted to do away with showing surge pricing details. Instead, the app will begin showing the total cost of a trip up front, saving passengers from having to do math. If surge pricing has been included in the total, the rider will be notified, but will not be able to see by how much. This new method does mean a destination has to be entered upon ordering, however the no-surprises approach has been receiving positive feedback during testing as riders find the new pricing much easier to understand.
