It’s not hard to see why Dries Van Noten is one of fashion’s most celebrated figures. With the ability to run a business while still being very much part of the design process, Mr. Van Noten is seen as someone who masters the art of control and execution. His 2017 spring/summer collection is a testament to the designer’s expertise in blending construction and pattern — the elegant florals he uses have always had an elegant, yet masculine undertone. The choice of colors also weave a wonderful tale of day to night, as we start out with light, earthy beige tones that beautifully progres into lush greens and blues, then caps off with dark navy. Construction, as always, is nothing short of impressive, delivering a solid range that recalls every technique you can possibly imagine — we’re given eye-catching embroidery, fringes, fraying and layering. The mix of florals and camouflage also bring out a the wow factor of the pieces. The juxtaposition between tough and sensual is imaginatively produced and it definitely works well. As for the most coveted pieces in the collection, we’d gladly choose the bomber jackets, trenches and patchwork shorts.
