Summary

  • Uber has announced the launch of “Uber Drift” in Tokyo, a limited-edition travel experience offered as part of its global “Go Anywhere” series

  • The offering gives international travelers rare access to Japan’s underground drifting scene, providing professional tandem drifting sessions at the technical Mobara Twin Circuit

  • The fully curated half-day itinerary includes round-trip private transfers via Uber Black and roughly 90 minutes of high-intensity track time where guests will ride shotgun with Formula Drift licensed drivers in iconic street racing cars, such as the Nissan Silvia S15 and the Nissan 180SX

Uber is tapping directly into the neon-lit, adrenaline-fueled energy of Japanese car culture. The ride-hailing giant has officially announced the launch of Uber Drift in Tokyo, transforming one of Japan‘s most elusive and mythologized subcultures into an easily accessible, luxury bookable adventure. Launched as part of Uber’s global “Go Anywhere” series, this limited-edition experience allows international travelers to bypass the traditionally tight-knit street-racing community and step right into the passenger seat for the ride of a lifetime.

For years, experiencing Japan’s authentic drifting scene meant navigating a deeply underground world that required local contacts, language skills, and a willingness to venture into obscure corners outside of Tokyo. Uber Drift completely flips the script, repackaging this high-octane subculture into a frictionless concierge service. Guests are picked up directly from their Tokyo hotels in an Uber Black and chauffeured to the Mobara Twin Circuit—a track highly respected within the local drifting scene for its tight corners and demanding, technical layout.

Once trackside, thrill-seekers are strapped in beside Formula Drift licensed professionals inside two absolute icons of Japanese street racing: the Nissan Silvia S15 and the Nissan 180SX. The professionals execute tandem drifts, a hypnotic and terrifying choreography where the cars glide sideways through corners just inches apart. Hitting speeds of 100 kilometers per hour, the 90-minute track session is designed to leave passengers utterly exhilarated.

Despite the luxury of an app-based booking and private transfers, Uber has carefully ensured that the experience retains its raw, rebellious pulse. Helmets and safety measures are strictly enforced, but the atmosphere avoids the trap of feeling like a sanitized, overly polished tourist attraction, staying true to the raw spirit of Japanese motorsport.

Given Tokyo’s obsession with exclusive, insider experiences, securing a spot might just be the hardest part of the ride. Capacity is intentionally kept very tight, with only four groups accepted daily. Reservations for Uber Drift will officially open directly within the Uber app on May 27, 2026, with the drifting sessions running from June 3 through July 1. For an incredibly attainable entry point, this package is an absolute must-book for anyone looking to add a cinematic edge to their Japanese itinerary.
