Summary

New York-based photographer Adam Powell will present his first solo exhibition at Tokyo's DIESEL ART GALLERY

Titled 'The DESERT is a CIRCLE,' the show features photographs from recent years, of motels, landscapes, and portraits, many of which shot across Arizona

The exhibition will run until January 11, 2027

What do Cameron Winters, Eric Adams, and Diesel have in common? They’re among the many faces and brands that have passed through Adam Powell’s lens, and if you don’t know the New York-based photographer, you might recognize a few of his editorial spreads or campaigns from a wide-ranging client list. His career has taken him all over, but the gallery space is still a first.

Diesel Art Gallery will host the debut solo exhibition by Powell at its Tokyo space from November 14 through January 11. Titled The DESERT is a CIRCLE, the exhibition “takes us on a journey across the desert,” per the exhibition text, “passing through empty landscapes, highways and motels where time begins to lose its meaning.”

Known for his fever-dreamishly lit photos, Powell takes us through the mystics of the American West. Days blur together in shots that span majestic landscapes and surreal self-portraits, drifting between reality and fantasy. The exhibition runs from November 14 through January 11, 2027. Alongside the artworks on display, a run of tees and exclusive Diesel merchandise will be available to cop.
