Gucci Visits Wonderland for Its 2017 Spring/Summer Collection

A kaleidoscopic effort from Alessandro Michele.

Gucci’s Milan Fashion Week invitation was a map that brought audience members into a verdant hall with psychedelic carpeting that harkened to Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The clothes featured in the collection, meanwhile, exhibited Michele’s maximalist approach to design. There is a little bit of everything: shimmering silks and glittering sequins abut modernized military designs; Donald Duck features as a motif across bomber jackets, sweaters and tuxedos; Gucci’s instantly-recognizable monogram is layered underneath intricate chinoiseries robes. There are elements of punk-rock and period garb; sometimes all of these influences and references are thrown together in the same look.

Get a closer look at the kaleidoscopic collection above and make sure to check out the storied atelier’s custom jacket installation if you happen to be in Milan for Fashion Week.
