Clare Waight Keller, Artistic Director of Givenchy, has announced her departure from the maison. The first woman artistic director at the tremendously-influential fashion house, Keller’s tenure began with the urbane Resort 2018 range, while her final offering was the women’s Fall/Winter 2020 presentation shown in March.

The former Chloé creative director and stylist joined Givenchy in 2017 following the departure of creative director Riccardo Tisci — currently chief creative officer of Burberry – and instigated a shift in the entirety of Givenchy’s output. Keller aided in revamping the label’s fashion output, alongside its scent, accessory and footwear business. Keller’s menswear output leaned on suiting in favor of Tisci’s famous street-friendly blend, predating current tastes for tailoring and classic menswear. Nevertheless, she encouraged footwear designers to create headline-worthy footwear, including a surprising collaboration.

Most recently, Keller tapped Marc Jacobs and Charlotte Rampling for Givenchy’s Spring/Summer 2020 campaign, highlighting her knack for infusing refined garments with accessible cuts and playful detailing.

“I want to warmly thank Clare Waight Keller for her contribution to Givenchy’s latest chapter,” said Sidney Toledano, Chairman and CEO of LVMH Fashion Group in a statement. “Under her creative leadership, and in great collaboration with its ateliers and teams, the Maison reconnected with the founding values of Hubert de Givenchy and his innate sense of elegance. I wish Clare all the best in her future endeavors.”

Givenchy has yet to announce a replacement and, likewise, Keller hasn’t revealed her future plans.
