AWAKE NY x ASICS GEL-KAYANO 5 360 Gets an Official Look & Release Date
Dropping in colorways inspired by New York & Paris.
After teasing the collaboration in SIZE, AWAKE NY has now released a full look at its upcoming collection with ASICS. Reworking the GEL-KAYANO 5 360, the Angelo Baque-headed label has debuted two colorways inspired by Baque’s time spent in New York and Paris.
The first colorway sees a silver upper offset with mint green detailing. These colors are a reference to Baque’s childhood and, particularly, his visits to Flushing Meadows Park in Corona Queens. The silver is in tribute to the Unisphere, a large steel globe that sits at the center of the park.
For the second colorway, AWAKE NY has wrapped the sneaker in a tonal golden upper atop a blacked out sole. This colorway is inspired by Paris, and the idea of wandering around the city at night as street lights cast a golden light across the French city. Announcing the full collection, the label explained that Baque wanted to work with ASICS due to the brand’s “popularity amongst the African and Middle Eastern youth culture in Paris.”
The collection will make its debut on June 20 at The Next Door in Paris. Following that, the AWAKE NY x ASICS collaboration will release at an exclusive pop-up in New York on June 22 and release via the AWAKE NY web store on June 25. Alongside the sneakers, the two New York label will release a limited-edition 3M logo tee and hoodie.
