Update: Nike’s digital-oriented .SWOOSH platform kicked off its Air Max 1 Low Poly campaign last year by putting a retro gaming-inspired spin on the classic “Sport Red” look. Since then, it’s gone on to drop a Lara Croft-based “Adventure” pair and is now set to launch a “Big Head Origins” colorway that references Donkey Kong. Previewed previously below, it is now set to drop on March 26 in celebration of Air Max Day via Nike SNKRS at a starting price of $160 USD.
Original Story: Nike and .SWOOSH are taking inspiration from Nintendo‘s very own Donkey Kong for the upcoming Air Max 1 “Big Head Origins.” Set for a Spring 2025 release, the model is crafted with a cream mesh base and hairy suede overlays in brown as a replica of Donkey Kong’s physical gorilla character. DK’s red tie and the game’s early graphics are translated on the top eyelets and branding, including the saw-edged leather panel swoosh and pixelated tongue tag.
Special branding details can also be found on the pixelated insoles with DS coins and a banana peel, as well as the Nike Air coin heel logo that’s similar to that of the ones used in the games. The sneaker rests on a yellow midsole with a visible Air Max unit and bespeckled brown outsole, while matching laces tie it together for a cohesive and on-brand finish.
