The 'Materialists' Trailer Is Here, Featuring A New Japanese Breakfast Song
Watch the official video, starring Pedro Pascal, Dakota Johnson, and Chris Evans.
Academy Award-nominated writer/director Celine Song is back with a new star-studded project. Though known for her portrayal of longing in her critically acclaimed debut movie ‘Past Lives,’ ‘Materialists’ is Song’s first venture into the rom-com genre.
Starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans, the A24-backed movie follows a single New York City matchmaker who becomes entangled between her ideal man (on paper) and her kind but less ambitious ex. Pascal plays an ultra-rich charmer while a dual chance encounter with Evans reminds a driven Johnson of how much he truly knows her.
Alongside the all-star cast, the trailer also features a dreamy new original song by Japanese Breakfast. The song won’t appear on Michelle Zauner’s new project, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women), however, the full album releases this Friday. The album follows Zauner’s intense rise to mainstream fame following the release of her best-selling book Crying In H-Mart and GRAMMY-nominated album, Jubilee.
The album release follows last month’s single “Mega Circuit,” which was an ode deconstructing masculinity in the face of bigotry. The song was accompanied by a music video co-directed with long-time collaborator Adam Kolodny.
‘Materialists’ is scheduled for international release on June 13. You can stay tuned to Hypebeast for more updates.
