Update: Initially rumored at the end of 2024, the black tongue version of the Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” is coming this year and we now have our first look at the sneaker via the post embedded below. As expected, it sports the classic “Fire Red” color blocking that includes white, red and black detailing throughout the sneaker, including a black tongue with red Jumpman branding. What sets this version of the shoe apart from its 2013 black tongue predecessor is that the heel carries black Nike Air branding, making this the first true recreation of the shoe since its original 1990 release. The colorway is now expected to drop on September 13 via Nike SNKRS and select retailers at a starting price of $210 USD. Stay tuned for an official look at the pair and read our initial breakdown below for more info.

Original Story: As Jordan Brand‘s release plans for 2025 continue to trickle out across the sneaker interwebs, it’s been revealed that the OG Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” is set to return. Reportedly touching down as part of the brand’s fall Air Jordan lineup — and, in doing so, celebrating its 35th anniversary — the “Fire Red” is the latest addition to a stacked lineup that also includes the Air Jordan 5 “Grape” and Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic Reimagined.”

What makes the “Fire Red” unique in Michael Jordan‘s signature footwear lexicon is that there are actually two OG colorways: one with a reflective tongue and mostly black midsole, the other with a black tongue and a more red-based midsole. It’s the latter that’s set to return in 2025, and it’ll come with all its original details, including Jordan’s #23 embroidered towards the heel and a large Nike Air hit on the rear. The black-tongued colorway was last released in 2013 and featured a Jumpman on its heel instead of the OG Nike Air branding, making this the most true-to-the-original iteration yet. (Pictured above is a signed OG pair from 1991 — the re-release will not feature Michael Jordan’s signature on its collar.)

Expect the Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” to touch down towards the end of 2025, and retail for $210 USD.
