You’ve surely seen the name WHATMORE on your social media feeds lately – and if you’ve been wondering what, exactly, it is, wonder no more.

Hailing from New York City comes the most exciting and sonically refreshing new supergroup we’ve been privy to in the current music ether. Spanning Cisco Swank, Yoshi T., Jackson August, $eb (Sebastiano), and Elijah Judah, WHATMORE wrangles a contagious, previously unexplored sans corniness, sense of nostalgia that knows no genre or creative constraint.

After unveiling a string of assuredly genre-bending singles – “chicken shop date” named after Amelia Dimoldenberg’s infamous YouTube series, the more indie, guitar-laden “jenny’s” and “go!,” and breakout hit “eastside w my dogs” – the unit has unveiled their first longform, self-titled project. Across its 12 tracks, the record is boundless in form, jumping between hip-hop, indie and alternative, and soul sounds.

The group is no stranger to reworking the formula, getting its start with original Bandcamp series “FLIPS,” on which they’d reimagine the works of a myriad of artists from across the genre universe, ranging from Mac Miller and Doechii to SZA, Phoebe Bridgers, and Faye Webster. The influences on this album are also prominent, the group drawing comparisons to early Brockhampton.

Though taking on a youthful and generally high-energy sound, each of WHATMORE’s sonic deliveries is still infused with an emotional authenticity.
