Lichen Releases "Team Lichen" Heavyweight Crewneck Sweatshirt
Inspired by the store and design incubator’s history with Gaetano Pesce’s iconic Broadway chair.

Ridgewood, Queens-based Lichen is mainly known for its in-house furniture and accessories as well as its extensive stock of goods from the likes of USM, Knoll and more. It’ll occasionally produce select apparel pieces too, and the latest piece of Lichen clothing is a heavyweight “Team Lichen” crewneck sweatshirt. The crewneck salutes one of the Lichen team’s favorite chairs — Gaetano Pesce‘s Broadway chair, a ’90s icon made of multicolored resin and sturdy steel — and, more specifically, a story related to the Broadway chairs in Lichen’s collection.
“[Our] purchase of our set of Broadway chairs was significant because at the time, we emptied our bank account to make this gamble; it was the most we’ve spent on anything until that point,” the Lichen team notes in the crewneck’s product description. “When we arrived at our friend Justin’s studio to shoot them we dropped one of the chairs which shattered upon impact … It was devastating at the time but also funny in a way. It allowed us to remember the humanity in our material endeavors.”
From an aesthetic standpoint, the crewneck, created in partnership with designers Ruth Kim and Joshua P. Mathews, features a textured print that was designed to emulate the feel of the chair’s resin build and manufactured by a simulated process screen print with a silicon applique. This print is placed on the back directly above Lichen’s address, while the front remains logo-less.
