Lichen Adds an Ash Option to Its Low Table Lineup
Each table has a unique grain, ensuring it’s a true one-of-one piece.
New York City-based showroom, manufacturer, vintage furniture dealer and design incubator Lichen is adding to its in-house lineup of furnishings with a new ash iteration of its Low Table. Joining previously-released iterations made from maple and sapele with oak, the ash table’s main calling card is that each iteration of it has a different grain — ensuring that all are unique one-of-one pieces.
Hand-built at Lichen’s woodshop in Brooklyn by in-house carpenter Dylan Ahern, the Low Table features a dual-plank design with a slit down its center. It’s held up by a trio of rectangular legs, all of which rise to the same height as the table’s surface to supply an interesting cross-cut grain effect. The height and build makes the Ash Low Table apt for a variety of uses, ranging from an easygoing coffee table to a low-slung display surface for everything from magazines and books to plants or even clothing. Dimension-wise, it’s 60 inches long, 7.5 inches high and 15 inches wide.
“We love vintage furniture and the history that comes along with it. But if you can replace it with something created by a friend, that’s a win,” said Lichen co-founder Jared Blake while discussing the importance of building out and championing Lichen’s in-house line during an April 2024 interview with Hypebeast. “It’s mutually beneficial for both the creator and the consumer, and that’s really at the core of what we’re doing.”
The Lichen Low Table in ash is available now via the Lichen website, and in-store at the Lichen showroom, located at 564 Woodward Ave, Ridgewood, NY, 11385. It’s priced at $749 USD.
