Nike's "Familia" Collection Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
Boisterous Air Max 1s and Pegasus 40s inspired by the invigorating energy and fierce pride of Hispanic culture and carnivals.
Hispanic Heritage Month is in full swing, and to celebrate Nike has debuted a new “Familia” collection. Consisting of fresh takes on the Air Max 1 and Pegasus 40 that pay tribute to the invigorating energy and fierce pride of young Latinas — as well as the culture and carnivals that surround the month-long celebration — the offering is concise but packed with detail.
Making use of a tan-based color scheme with vibrant pink, green, red and yellow, plus custom “Familia” tongues, both shoes display their inspiration in an undeniably joyful fashion. The Air Max 1 features a melange of festive textile layers, with extra trim stretched around its mudguard and seams plus a textured Swoosh. Its overall shape is modern, with a thick midsole and slim Air Max unit instead of the trim midsole and bulbous Air Max unit used on the Air Max 1 ‘86. The Pegasus 40, on the other hand, uses a thin trim of its own around the eyestays and even features a looped pattern above its toebox. The look is completed by an abstract tie-dye pattern on the Swoosh.
Expect each pair to touch down on SNKRS and the Nike webstore come September 27. The Air Max 1 is priced at $130 USD, while the Pegasus 40 retails for $140 USD.
