Nike has linked up with Los Angeles designer Masyn and 3D-printing company Zellerfeld to reveal a custom 3D-printed Nike Air Max Mule. First reported by Mario Briguglio, the collaborative footwear concept was developed under the sportswear brand’s new Air Works program.
Departing from celebrity-driven concepts, Masyn rooted the silhouette’s design language in personal relationships, drawing inspiration from friends, family, and mentors who have played pivotal roles in his life. The resulting shoe is shaped as a unisex slip-on mule, utilizing Zellerfeld’s proprietary 3D-printing technology to generate an entirely seamless, molded structure that breaks away from traditional Air Max construction.
The exterior is covered in star textures across the upper and the base. On the outsole, an oversized star is positioned to leave a visible star-shaped footprint on the ground as the wearer walks, a tactile detail representing the impressions left by influential figures in Masyn’s journey. The collaborative footwear was first previewed during a private friends-and-family event at NOVA studios in West Hollywood. Masyn is one of several international creatives selected for the debut edition of Nike’s Air Works initiative, which provides designers with an open platform to create their own Air Max footwear.
