Summary
Kiko Kostadinov and New Era return with a new collaborative cap made exclusively for the Japanese market
The release builds on New Era’s 9TWENTY silhouette with an easy-to-adjust fit and two dark, moody colorways
Both brands’ marks share the crown in a stripped-back design that lets the logos carry the identity
Kiko Kostadinov and New Era are back with a Japan-exclusive 9TWENTY cap, offered in “Coal Black” and “Abyss Blue.” The new style keeps the collaboration’s design language deliberately minimal, putting the London label’s signature emblem front and center in embroidery while New Era’s own branding sits on the side. It is a compact release built around restraint, where fit and placement do the heavy lifting.
The 9TWENTY forms the base of the cap, giving the collaboration a lower-profile shape than New Era’s more structured fitted styles. Built as an unstructured six-panel with a pre-curved brim, the silhouette softens the overall look and wears closer to the head. A simple adjustable closure at the back makes dialing in the fit quick, so the cap moves easily between wearers and head sizes.
Branding is handled with precision rather than volume. Kiko Kostadinov’s recognizable logo is embroidered onto the front, giving the mark texture and depth instead of a flat print, while the New Era logo appears on the side panel as a quieter co-sign. Keeping both marks in their own zones lets each brand read clearly without crowding the crown, and the result feels like a shared object rather than a co-branded billboard.
The two colorways keep the palette tight and wearable. “Coal Black” leans into the stealthy, utilitarian side of Kiko Kostadinov’s aesthetic, while “Abyss Blue” offers a deep, saturated alternative that still reads understated on the street. Neither shade competes with the embroidery, which keeps attention on the logo work up front.
The Japan-only release also underscores how central Tokyo has become to the label’s retail presence, with Kiko Kostadinov’s own Tokyo store serving as one of the two launch points. The second, Dover Street Market Ginza, remains one of the city’s most closely watched destinations for limited drops, and its Open House adds an event-driven edge to the launch. Founded by Bulgarian-born, London-based designer Kiko Kostadinov, the label has built its following by reworking everyday staples with a technical, design-forward eye, which makes a pared-back cap a natural fit for the partnership.
The Kiko Kostadinov x New Era 9TWENTY drops Saturday, October 24 at Kiko Kostadinov Tokyo and during the Open House at Dover Street Market Ginza.
