HOMEGAME and New Era’s "Kasane Pack" Layers Traditional Japanese Patterns Onto MLB Crowns
Dodgers, Mariners and Yankees caps each get their own color-coded blend of hemp leaf, floral and bamboo prints.
Summary
HOMEGAME and New Era rework three MLB 59FIFTY fitteds with crowns cut from fabric that combines several traditional Japanese motifs
Each team is assigned its own color story, with blue for the Dodgers, green for the Mariners and purple for the Yankees
Pattern placement shifts from cap to cap, so no two pieces in the pack look exactly alike
HOMEGAME and New Era have teamed up on the 59FIFTY “Kasane Pack,” a three-piece MLB capsule built from patchwork-style fabric that pulls together a range of traditional Japanese patterns. The Japan-based cap specialist gave each team its own palette, matching the Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees with tonal prints and coordinating visors.
The starting point is the textile. Rather than printing a single graphic, the pack uses a fabric that assembles several classic Japanese motifs and botanical references into one surface. Three stand out: the geometric asanoha, or hemp leaf, grid; clusters of small, delicate flowers; and upright stalks of bamboo. HOMEGAME pitches the project as a modern reconstruction of these centuries-old designs, with attention paid from the choice of cloth through to how it’s cut and set onto the six-panel crown.
Each colorway gets a name drawn from its dominant hue and motif. “AIKA” (藍花) dresses the Dodgers cap in blue-toned prints with a solid blue brim. “SUIMA” (翠麻) shifts the Mariners version into greens and finishes it with a Northwest Green visor. “SHICHIKU” (紫竹) gives the Yankees edition a purple-leaning crown set against a navy brim.
The trims hold steady across all three. Team logos (LA, S and NY) sit up front in raised 3D embroidery, while MLB’s Batterman logo anchors the rear. Inside, a white sweatband lines the crown, and a gray undervisor runs beneath every brim, keeping the busy outer fabric grounded with a clean, classic base.
Because the patterned cloth is cut panel by panel, the motifs land differently on every cap. One Yankees fitted might put a bamboo stalk front and center while the next leads with hemp leaf geometry, which makes each piece effectively one of a kind. It’s a fitting detail for a pairing between New Era, the 1920-founded headwear label that serves as MLB’s sole official on-field cap supplier, and HOMEGAME, a shop known for stocking New Era styles unreleased in Japan alongside its own hip-hop-leaning “HOMEGAME CUSTOM” makeups.
The New Era x HOMEGAME 59FIFTY “Kasane Pack” drops October 10 at HOMEGAME stores and via the HOMEGAME online store.
