Michi Nakano, a photographer, filmmaker, and musician based in Tokyo and New York, will hold a solo exhibition titled “Meimetsu” from Friday, October 9 to Thursday, October 22, 2026, at SISON GALLERy in Daikanyama, Tokyo.

Born in North Carolina and raised in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture, Nakano began his creative work focusing on photography and film in 2015 after completing a master’s degree in literature at Sophia University. Currently based in Tokyo and New York, he creates works across photography, film, and music. Starting from personal memories, time, the body, and loss, his overarching themes explore a critique of the structures that shape society and values, alongside the acceptance of living within them. He published the photo book *Akatsuki* under the theme of “wholeness” in 2020, followed by *Days in Between* in 2023. He also serves as the frontman for the band Modern Jazz War, releasing their first EP *Holes in Modernity* in 2025.

The exhibition “Meimetsu” brings together a collection of works the artist has photographed over the past decade. Tracing not only what was captured in the photographs but also the “unrecorded time and emotions” lingering on their periphery, the showcase crosses the boundary between the visible and the invisible. Having confronted the landscapes of his childhood, partings with loved ones, and the irreversibility of time, Nakano describes the show as “like saying goodbye to my youth,” marking a major milestone in his career. An in-depth interview with the artist is also available on the gallery’s website. Visitors are invited to the venue to experience the flickering passage of time between record and memory, as well as the deep emotion hidden behind the tranquil visuals.
