Jaguar officially revealed the production-ready Jaguar Type 01 at a world premiere event at STORIED in New York’s creative district. The debut featured a digital skyline takeover and a dynamic arrival through city streets, officially introducing an electric luxury sedan that carries a starting price of roughly $130,500 USD. Pronounced “Type Zero One” rather than “Type Oh One,” the 5,950-pound vehicle arrived after its launch was delayed by more than a year due to a major cyberattack and shifting EV market conditions. Following the controversial debut of the Type 00 concept car in Miami two years prior, this reveal marked a high-stakes moment for Jaguar. By abandoning legacy touchstones to court entirely new demographics, the production vehicle represented a deliberate, clean break from brand tradition in an attempt to forge a radical new identity.
That aesthetic pivot is immediately obvious in the aggressive, massive footprint of the Jaguar Type 01. Measuring 206.1 inches in overall length, the car is 2.7 inches shorter than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but its roofline sits a full 4 inches lower. The front fascia eliminates the traditional grille entirely, drawing in air exclusively through active shutters located in the lower section. Along the side profile, the C-pillar features three converging creases and a deep draw from the fender to the roofline dubbed “the impossible panel,” requiring six stamping steps on a 2,500-ton press. The rear features a glassless fastback design with no window and utilizes a rearview camera screen mounted just above the driver’s line of sight, though United States market regulations force the inclusion of a vestigial reflective rearview mirror mounted at the top of the windshield. The standard paint palette includes white, silver, grey, black, two shades of greyish-blue and “Mermerizing Copper,” notably excluding the brand’s iconic British Racing Green. A 60-unit limited edition model called “Chromatic Moments” also drops in satin-finished French Ultramarine or London Red.
Inside the cabin, the vehicle features a four-door 2+2 layout divided by a central spine that hides stowage, cup holders, rear-seat HVAC vents and a secondary screen for rear passengers. The driver’s display centers on a 24-inch instrument screen set behind an oval steering wheel, while a central 7.0-inch touchscreen allows front occupants to control cabin temperature, lighting and the dimming function of the glass roof. A monolithic soundbar containing 13 of the vehicle’s 25 speakers anchors the base of the windshield. Seat surfaces can be specced in traditional cow-based leather or a vegan alternative, with both options heavily accented by textile fabrics on the sides. The vehicle rides on the exclusive Jaguar Electrical Architecture (JEA), a bespoke platform completely separate from Land Rover that is slated to underpin two additional upcoming electric vehicles.
The Jaguar Type 01 delivers immense power via a tri-motor powertrain that generates 1,015 horsepower and 1,007 pound-feet of torque. That output propels the sedan from 0 to 60 mph in the three-second range and from 62 to 112 mph in exactly four seconds. Power flows from a 120-kWh prismatic cell battery pack utilizing nickel-heavy NMC chemistry, which targets an EPA-estimated range of over 400 miles. Built on an 850-volt system, the sedan can restore up to 200 miles of range in 13 minutes by utilizing charging electronics that can split the battery into two 400-volt packs to maximize 250-kW fast chargers. North American models are equipped with a NACS port on the right side for fast charging and an older SAE J1772 plug on the left, both capable of 22-kW AC charging. Jaguar is currently accepting pre-orders for the vehicle, with initial customer deliveries planned to occur around or before mid-2027.
