MARKET is keeping its run of pop culture collabs intact by reimagining another notable blast from the past: Astro Boy. Joined by toy manufacturer ToyQube, MARKET has concocted a new, Smiley-inspired iteration of the famed manga character.

Constructed from vinyl and standing nearly 10 inches tall, the Astro Boy figurine rocks his recognizable red jacket – but MARKET tricks out the familiar piece with intricate new detailing for top-tier fan service. A “non-citizen” patch is seen on Astro Boy’s right shoulder and a flag on his upper left shoulder, with two pockets along the waistline.

On the jacket’s back side, MARKET implements their branding. The brand’s signature yellow smiley face sits in the middle, with the word “MARKET” both encircling the face and stamped atop the back of Astro Boy’s hood. Some more anime-inspired patches line the jacket’s sleeves as well. The figure also wears matching red shorts, and his familiar shoes — that bear more than a passing resemblance MSCHF’s Big Red Boots.

MARKET has taken us down memory lane quite a few times in 2023 thus far, though until now most of their efforts have focused on music instead of anime. The label has dabbled heavily in the music scene, creating vibrant Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix collections.

The MARKET x ToyQube x Astro Boy collab will retail for $250 USD, and will be available to shop June 27 at MARKET’s webstore.
