New video games hit the market each day. However, there’s something about the classics that keeps players going back to outdated consoles. Despite the efforts of publishers to capitalize on their established catalogs, many games remain lost in the void of aging console libraries.

For many gamers, they’ve turned to emulators as the best option for revisiting games. Dolphin Emulator has been a go-to for emulating the Nintendo GameCube and Wii consoles for years. Now, it has announced that it a Steam version of its emulator is on the way. It’s important to note that users will need to provide their own ROMs — the memory needed to emulate a game — however, it will increase the availability of emulation — including future Steam Deck integration.

Key perks of emulation include the following outlined by Dolphin: “Increased resolution, widescreen hacks, HD texture packs, and patches to increase the frame rate. While playing a game, features like quick saves (save states), slow motion, and turbo can make playing through annoying sections a breeze. You can even take your favorite local multiplayer games online with Dolphin’s built-in netplay. Once you’re bored of a game, you can breathe new life into it by playing community-made mods like randomizers and custom level packs.”

The store page for the Dolphin Emulator is now live on Steam with a planned early access release taking place by the end of quarter two of this year at an always-free price point. For those interested in emulating titles right away, you can download the emulator from Dolphin’s website.
