99GINGER and New Balance Team Up for Croc-Coated 1906R Collaboration
The rising Parisian collective’s first footwear collaboration is F&F-only, but a second version will see a broader drop in 2024.
Parisian collective 99GINGER is the latest outside entity to put its spin on the New Balance 1906R, dressing the retro runner-turned-lifestyle silhouette in a luxurious croc composition. A well-known Paris party series that evolved into a creative incubator with a record label, consultancy services and an editorial arm, 99GINGER worked with New Balance on a party at Paris Fashion Week back in January 2023, and now their first footwear effort — revealed by photographer @alextrescool — brings both that brand relationship and their own prestige to a new level.
A friends-and-family-only style, the 99GINGER x New Balance 1906R features a luxurious, Mauri-esque green croc upper that nods to the 1906R’s standard construction with stiched detailing where a regular pair’s panels would usually be. Other details include glossy black toe caps and heel cages, while standard black tongues, midsoles and outsoles round off the look.
The 1906R is no stranger to collaborations, having been worked on by COMME des GARÇONS HOMME, AURALEE and GANNI, while A-listers like Salehe Bembury and Action Bronson have their own iterations on the way as well. However, what sets 99GINGER’s style apart is that it’s the first to not lean heavily into the shoe’s technical specs or feature a bright melange of colors. Though this pair won’t be released to the general public, a yet-unseen, more widely available iteration is set to drop sometime in 2024.
