Spotify Is Testing AI Playlists Generated Using Text Prompts
A ChatGPT-style approach to curating music.
Spotify is certainly no stranger to personalized playlists, from its vast array of genre-specific offerings to the “daylist,” which automatically updates based on a user’s listening habits throughout the day.
The streaming platform is reportedly considering using AI to create personalized soundtracks for its users. Product designer Chris Messina shared screenshots to social media that show a reverse engineered preview of the feature.
The code for the reported feature shows a line of text that would presumably be shown within the app, reading, “Get playlists based on your prompts.” It seems the tool would allow users to input text in order to churn out a curated list of songs.
“Looks like you may be able to generate “AI Playlists” on Spotify using custom prompts,” Messina wrote. “It seems like creating these might be an option in the Blend Genre.”
For those unfamiliar, Spotify’s Blend creates joint music selections for a user and their friend, blending their two music tastes into one playlist.
Spotify, meanwhile, has yet to actually confirm the feature for itself.
