In-Hand Look at Coley Miller's Nike Foamposite One "Doernbecher”
She honors her Klamath Tribe heritage through a basket weave graphic that features the Klamath mountains and a quail plume.
It’s tradition that in the early half of the year, Nike and Jordan Brand link arms to piece together the rollout for its annual Doernbecher Freestyle collection. And after previewing the full range back in October, more leaks of the upcoming sneakers have been trickling out, the latest being the Nike Foamposite One “Doernbecher” that’s designed by Coley Miller — one of the six designers highlighted in this year’s capsule.
Using the classic hoops-turned-lifestyle model as her canvas, the 11-year-old patient creates a love letter to her Klamath Tribe heritage and her favorite sport of basketball. Ribbed side panels are outfitted with a starry pattern and backdropped in blue. This is inspired by the time Miller spent with her mother, who donated a kidney to her when she was in need of a kidney transplant. Collars and overlays are done up in white and blue, the latter being formed in basket weave graphics that represent the Klamath Mountains in northwestern California and southwestern Oregon as well as a quail plume. Chevron-patterned outsoles are tinted with a midnight blue hue and come accented by a yellow 1 cent insignia on the heel and the words “ho mas gi” which translates to “Just Do It” in the Klamath language.
