One of Nike’s most favorable designs, the Cortez, is fusing with the brand’s classic SB skate shoe to create the new BRSB. The Cortez silhouette made its debut back in 1972 and has since then been a staple in the company.

The shoe was highly popularized as seen on Forrest Gump during his impromptu cross country run, George Costanza in Seinfeld and Whitney Houston as she sang the national anthem at the 1991 Super Bowl. Other than that, it served as a reference for L.A. culture which eventually created much demand throughout the globe.

Reminiscing on its humble beginnings, Nike dubbed the current installment as the Blue Ribbon SB “BRSB” — after the company’s initial name, Blue Ribbon Sports.

Since the Cortez was the first track shoe created by the sportswear giant with the OG red, white and blue colorway, Nike outfitted the BRSB in the same palette with a touch of retro components. The forefront of the shoe is shaped with cream-colored suede running up the jagged eyestays overlay, while the rest of the uppers are done in supple white leather. A rich red hue details the branding elements from the submerged lateral Swoosh to the tongue tab and heel tab as well as a mini embroidered Swoosh. The white midsole and outsole sandwich a React foam drop-in insole which peeps out in Periwinkle Blue.

Further information on the Nike BRSB is yet to be released in the coming weeks.

In case you missed it, the Air Jordan 1 Mid received the classic “Grape” treatment.
