Lucid Motors' Air Grand Touring Performance Is the Most Powerful Electric Vehicle in the U.S.

There’s a race happening in the electric automotive industry, and it seems that Lucid Motors might have edged across the line with its new Air Grand Touring Performance model. The car was first positioned as the longest-range, fastest-charging electric car on the market, and has since gone on to become the most powerful electric vehicle currently available in North America.

It packs 1,050 HP — therefore 31 HP more than the current Tesla Model S Plaid — and it has a class-leading EPA-estimated driving range of 446 miles. In its Air Grand Touring Performance spec, the car will launch to 60 MPH in 2.6 seconds and does so thanks to an all-wheel-drive system connected to a proprietary motor paired to each axle.

“Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance answers the strong demand we continue to see for higher-performance versions of the Lucid Air,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO, Lucid Group. He added, “The remarkable speed with which we are able to conceive and bring this model to market is possible only because of Lucid’s high degree of vertical integration and in-house production of our proprietary EV powertrain and battery pack technology.”

As this is also positioned as a high-luxury car, the Lucid Air comes with standard equipment ranging from a glass canopy roof to a 5K-resolution 34-inch floating “Glass Cockpit,” as well as LIDAR technology, Micro Lens Array LED headlights, ultra-fast 900-volt charging, a surround sound system, massaging seats, and more.
