Take a Hike With Vivienne Westwood's Chunky Romper Sandal

Vivienne Westwood is largely responsible for dressing the modern punk and new wave scenes of the ’70s and ’80s, but this doesn’t mean the legendary British designer hasn’t dabbled in a few other trends here or there. Now, for Spring/Summer 2022, Westwood introduces the Romper Sandal and Romper Runner in either white or black colorways.
As seen in the brand’s Juergen Teller-shot SS22 campaign, the Romper Sandal and Runner project an aesthetic akin to gladiator sandals — which rose to fame in the 1960s and again in the early 2000s — while also bringing in a dad shoe energy. It does so thanks to a high-top design that’s detailed with cut-out panels on the sandal, and as for the runner, these come with a cotton inner layer that creates a high-top, chunky sneaker.
Per the Westwood ethos, these shoes are also sustainable, sporting vegan leather panels made from apple fibers or natural bamboo fibers depending on the style and colorway. Likewise, a contrasting recycled patch is embroidered on the back of each design, while more Westwood Orb branding appears on the insole.
