The "15YearsOfAitorThroupStudio" Exhibition Explores the Argentinian-British Designer’s Multidimensional Archive

Hong Kong Avant-garde showroom ink presents a pop-up exhibition celebrating Argentinian-British designer Aitor Throup with creative collective UNVEIL LIMITED. Serving as Throup’s first retrospective, the exhibit covers his whole career with the first physical appearance of many works in Hong Kong.

Titled “15YearsOfAitorThroupStudio,” the pop-up exhibition explores Aitor Throup’s multidimensional archive with over 100 pieces from a wide range of media and disciplines spanning back to 2006. The works serve to showcase key milestones and design highlights, along with an introduction of original sketches from TheDailySketchbookArchives. The sketches reveal Throup’s rigorous daily drawing practice that began almost 10 years ago. Using drawing as a form of meditation, the exercises in imagination are a part of Throup’s design process and stand as vignettes of the designer’s self-therapy against the overwhelming pressures of a hyper-analytical brain.

The “15YearsOfAitorThroupStudio” exhibition is led by four fully dressed 1:1 body-molded sculptures from Aitor Throup’s globally acclaimed “New Object Research” (2013) collection. Viewers can explore his revolutionary architectural approach that looks to build outfitting that becomes second skin with the human body as a canvas. The experience of intricate construction is continued it a showcase of the development process behind Throup’s iconic Shiva Skull Bag. A view of the panels used share the masterful manipulation used to transform two-dimensional fabrics into an anatomically correct three-dimensional structure.

Aside from a full collection of unreleased NOR16 masks, a life-size articulated New Object Research (2016) puppet from Aitor Throup’s ground-breaking London Fashion Week presentation is on display with a unique lighting system that demonstrates a transition from corporeal to the ethereal.
