Rick Owens Distorts the Converse Weapon for Latest Collaboration
The ’80s basketball shoe gets a radical reworking.

After announcing the return of the Weapon in June this year, Converse has now recruited Rick Owens to rework the silhouette. The new release is the latest collaboration between the legendary designer and Converse, and follows on from last month’s TURBODRK Chuck 70 collaboration.
For his take on the Weapon — dubbed the TURBOWPN — Owens has distorted the ’80s silhouette. The new design features exaggerated proportions, including an elongated tongue and a double-sized outsole, a signature Owens design touch. Launching the collaboration, the designer said, “When I discovered how powerful just oversizing something a little bit was, which I’ve done with a lot of my clothes, that became one of my tools.”
Other features on the TURBOWPN are taken from Owens’ DRKSHDW line, with the Converse star logo twisted into a style that recalls his iconography. As Owens said, “One of the main things that I think it suggests is empathy and consideration of systems of living that might not be standard.”
